Auto Naming Endpoints

The ENDPOINT NAMING page lets you construct a naming format for endpoints by selecting endpoint attributes to include in the name and entering a custom prefix and postfix to the name if desired. For example, you can create a name that begins with your prefix text, followed by the endpoint's MC group or sub-group name, followed by the endpoint's MAC address or device label, and ends with your postfix text.

The names created from these settings are visible from the ENDPOINTS and ENDPOINT DETAILS pages. They are only used with the MC and are not available from the endpoint's AWI or OSD.

Each time you change a setting as you configure the naming convention, the Example Name field at the bottom of the page updates to show the format you have created. When you have finished constructing the name, you then choose when the name should be applied.

You can configure auto naming by clicking SETTINGS from the MC's top menu and then clicking the NAMING menu in the left pane.

Creating a Global Endpoint Naming Convention

Note: Click the ? beside each field for help with any of the settings.

From the MC's top menu, click SETTINGS.
In the left pane, click NAMING.
Configure the endpoint name format as follows:
- Endpoint Name: Select whether to incorporate the endpoint's current unique ID (i.e., its MAC address) or its device label (e.g., pcoip-portal-<MAC address>) into the endpoint name.
- Prefix: Enter any text you wish to prepend to the name.
- Group Naming: Select whether to add the endpoint's group name and/or immediate sub-group name after the prefix.
- Postfix: Enter any text you wish to append to the name.
In the Rename Endpoints when field, select whether to apply the name when the endpoint is first discovered, or any time it is moved between groups or between a grouped and ungrouped category.
Click SAVE.
