What is Teradici Arch published desktop?

Teradici Arch is a software-based solution for Microsoft® Remote Desktop Services (RDS) that uses the high-performance PCoIP® protocol as an alternative to Microsoft Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP), enhancing the user experience while providing access to the entire PCoIP ecosystem.

Who should use it?

Teradici Arch is a simple add-on to existing RDS (terminal services) deployments. RDS lends itself well to situations with application uniformity and consistency across activities users are performing such as training labs and task worker environments like call centers. With the addition of the high performance PCoIP protocol, end users will enjoy a superior end-user experience even with rich media. RDS use cases also can be extended to include branch offices and remote users.

What types of environments is this best suited to?

Teradici Arch is best suited for organizations that have deployed both VMware View® VDI and Microsoft RDS and wish to unify these deployments under a single remote display protocol to enable a number of important benefits.

These benefits include:

  • the ability to deploy low maintenance, highly secure PCoIP zero clients, replacing repurposed PCs or thin clients to all end users
  • Avoid the expense and complexity of XenApp. Teradici Arch provides a high performance protocol to support modern applications and use cases
  • Extend RDS to remote users and branch offices
  • Optimize network infrastructure on a single protocol
  • Manage all end-point devices from a single provisioning interface and as a single pool of assets
How will the PCoIP protocol improve my existing RDS deployment?

Teradici Arch replaces the native RDP protocol within RDS with the high performance PCoIP protocol. PCoIP provides the best end-user experience over any network type and enables the use of PCoIP zero clients, which are the most secure and lowest OPEX end-points available on the market. Because of these features, Teradici Arch extends the capabilities of RDS deployments to additional use cases such as branch offices and remote users, environments with strict security mandates, and those use cases requiring rich media applications.

How much does it cost?

Teradici Arch will be sold as a perpetual license per named user with annual Maintenance and Support subscriptions. For specific pricing and how to purchase please contact our sales team.

What PCoIP end-points are compatible with Teradici Arch?

Teradici Arch is compatible out-of-the-box with the following PCoIP end-points:

  • PCoIP zero clients
    • Tera2: Firmware 4.0.3
    • Tera1: Firmware 4.0.2
  • VMware View soft clients
    • Apple OS X 1.7
    • Windows 5.2
    • iOS 1.7
    • Android 1.7
How does the Teradici Arch solution work with the APEX server offload card?

Teradici Arch published desktop delivers PCoIP support for Microsoft RDS desktop sessions and supports the use of Teradici APEX 2800 server offload cards to provide excellent performance and protects your current scalability with RDS. Once the Teradici Arch solution is installed on the RDSH server and PCoIP services are enabled, the APEX server offload card can be used.

Is the Teradici Arch solution limited to VMware View broker?

Yes, the current Teradici Arch solution is suitable for deployments with VMware View broker already deployed, in particular with the VMware View VDI solution.

Tell me more about how Teradici Arch replaces the Microsoft protocol, RDP.

With Teradici Arch, the RDP protocol is replaced at the frame buffer level on the Microsoft Windows Server, ensuring the same great user experience as VMware View VDI desktops.

What type of USB support is available in 1.0?

USB keyboard and mouse are fully supported. Support for USB peripherals such as flash storage, scanners, and printers will be announced in future releases with the ability for IT Managers to disable this functionality.

When will this product include application publishing?

Check back on the Teradici website for future product announcements.

Why do I need to use the VMware View broker?

The current Teradici Arch 1.0 solution uses the VMware View Connection Server to broker sessions back to RDSH servers. Additionally, leveraging the VMware View broker provides access to the VMware View end point ecosystem, both soft and hardware clients and allows customers to leverage the strengths of this broker including load balancing capabilities and fault tolerance.

Will the RDSH server be able to use RDP after Arch is installed?

No, once Teradici Arch is installed, the RDSH server will only be able to deliver published desktops with the PCoIP protocol. The RDP protocol is replaced by the PCoIP protocol at the frame buffer level.

What does the name mean?

Teradici Arch broadens desktop virtualization by connecting the PCoIP ecosystem of products with a new platform, namely Microsoft RDSH, similar to a structural arch in a bridge or building.
